Engaging in a positive and enjoyable practice where creativity flourashes

At one point, I wanted to practice something more calming yet creative. I was trying to balance my creative juices with something more peaceful yet engaging. A few people had introduced me to the idea of coloring books, but I thought they were mostly for infants or kids. I was actually reassured that they were also geared towards adults. The adult coloring book had much more detail and variety to choose from when coloring the pictures. I did some research and refreshed my memory with the fact that coloring in general—whether with coloring books or freehand using things like pencil crayons and markers—is great stimulation and a healthy practice no matter your age. I purchased a coloring book I was interested in online for about $25.00; it was a mandala coloring book. I also purchased some pencil crayons online with a nice variation in colors for around $15.00. When I had the coloring book to work with, I brought it out in the afternoon by the window, taking in the light of the day. I sat on the couch, opened the coloring book, and began to color in it. What I noticed about the coloring experience was that I wasn't as caught up in the distractions in the house because the coloring was so engaging. I felt pulled in to focus on the task, and I was also positively influenced by the sensation of choosing colors to work with. I had a fresh glass of ice water and just sipped it occasionally while I filled in the coloring book. After about 20 minutes of expressing myself through choosing colors and placements in the coloring book, I had completed a small portion of the page and was very satisfied with the experience. I felt refreshed and renewed by the opportunity to express myself through color. I had a great experience, especially since the adult-style coloring book was very intricate and enjoyable to fill out. I felt a more positive emotional response after the session, and it definitely brightened my day.
